Hanok Village lanes and Nambu Market

한옥마을 골목과 남부시장

Day course · 12 stops · Jeonju

Start with bean sprout soup, then see Gyeonggijeon and Jeondong Cathedral before the climb to Omokdae and Jaman Mural Village. After a bibimbap lunch in the old downtown, walk through Nambu Market and Gaekridan-gil and pick up choco pies for the train home.

[From Jeonju Station] This plan assumes the 06:39 KTX-Sancheon from Suseo, which reaches Jeonju Station around 08:20. City buses 79, 119 and 999 from the station take about 25 minutes to the stop in front of Jeondong Cathedral. Check the bus numbers and train times before you go. If you come by express or intercity bus, the terminals in Geumam-dong are about 15 minutes away on bus 79, 999 or 1994. [Gyeonggijeon and Jeondong Cathedral] Gyeonggijeon opens at 09:00 every day, and last entry is an hour before closing. Closing time changes with the season and is 19:00 in September and October. The main hall is under repair in 2026, so you can only see it from outside. Jeondong Cathedral is open inside from 09:00 to 17:00, and you can't go in during Mass. Checked Oct 2026. [Omokdae and Jaman Village] Omokdae is a 5 to 10 minute climb up steps and a dirt path. Cross the footbridge and you're in Jaman Mural Village, where people still live, so keep your voice down. The steps and slopes are steep and get slippery after rain. [Bibimbap] Gajok Hoegwan opens at 10:30 and the lunch line is long, so it's calmer before 11:00 or after 14:00. Checked Oct 2026. [Nambu Market] Hours vary by stall, and reviews say many Youth Mall shops upstairs are shut during the day on weekdays. The market is covered, so you can walk it in the rain. [Gaekridan-gil] News reports since 2024 mention more empty shopfronts, so check that the place you want is still open. [Choco pies] PNB Pungnyeon Bakery is a separate company from Pungnyeon Jegwa, which has a similar name. There's also a PNB shop inside Jeonju Station, so you can buy them just before the train. [Departure day] This plan has you on the 19:28 KTX from Jeonju Station to Yongsan. The last train that reaches Yongsan before midnight leaves at 21:43, and from Friday to Sunday the last train to Suseo leaves at 15:55. These are weekday times and weekends may differ, so check before you go. The bus from the Hanok Village to the station takes about 25 minutes, so leave an hour before your train. Weekend trains back to Seoul are said to be busy, so book as soon as your dates are set. [If it rains] The hills at Omokdae and Jaman Village get slippery, so skip them and stay under a roof, in the Royal Portrait Museum inside Gyeonggijeon or in Nambu Market. The National Intangible Heritage Center across Namcheongyo Bridge is indoors too. [Seasons] The stone lanes have little shade, so midday in July and August is hard going. The Hanok Village gets very crowded on spring and autumn weekends and over the holidays in the first week of October.
