What SeoulTech is like

Things Korean students all know that are new when you arrive.

1910

A vocational school from 1910

The school's timeline starts on 15 April 1910 with the Public Eoeudong Vocational Continuing School. It was reorganised as Gyunggi Public Technical School in 1944.

이름

Many names, one school

The school changed its name several times. On 1 September 2010 it took its present name, Seoul National University of Science and Technology.

다산관

An emblem drawn from a building

The emblem puts the Korean letters ㅅ, ㄱ and ㄷ in digital pixels inside shapes that suggest Dasangwan. Its concept is 'the next 100 years of infinite imagination'.

흑룡

The black dragon

The black dragon is the school's symbol animal. The choice began in 2012 when the school became a general university, and a committee confirmed it in February 2014.

테크뇽

A baby dragon mascot

The mascot Technyong was announced in January 2026 after a naming contest. The name mixes 'tech' with the Korean sound for dragon.

For Spring 2027. The emails from the school come first. Use this list to check nothing is missing. Ticks stay in this browser only.

Not an official SeoulTech page. Dates and rules change. Check the details on SeoulTech's official site before you apply or book anything. SeoulTech exchange programme ↗ Checked on 19 October 2026

  1. Your home university nominates you by 15 October. SeoulTech then emails you a link, and you apply online by 31 October 2026.

  2. You need two finished semesters at your home university, or one for graduate students. Each partner sends up to two students a semester, and only one if no SeoulTech student went to your university in the last two semesters.

  3. It has to be valid for at least six months from the start of the semester.

  4. TOEIC 750, IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 72, Cambridge 160, Pearson GSE 59 or Duolingo 100. With TOPIK level 3 you can come instead, for courses taught in Korean only.

  5. You need a D-2-6 visa before you come. You can't change to it inside Korea from a tourist entry. Most are single entry, so don't travel to other countries before your residence card is out. A used single-entry visa won't get you back in.

  6. After you're accepted you send a copy of your visa, your flight details and a bank statement in your name showing US$6,000 for one semester. If you're not from an OECD country, your enrolment certificate also needs an apostille or Korean embassy authentication.

  7. Results came on 28 November and the acceptance package by email on 5 December. Orientation was planned for 27 February. SeoulTech hasn't published the spring 2027 dates yet.

Health insurance
You join National Health Insurance once you register for your card. In 2026 it's about ₩79,000 a month, and the bill goes to your registered address. Pay each month by the 25th of the month before, even if you have private insurance. Help in English on +82-33-811-2000.
Changes
