In February 1956 the girls' junior college closed and Seoul Liberal Arts Teachers' College opened as a two-year coeducational school. In October 1963 the name became Myongji Junior College.
In 1964, after President Yoo Sang-keun took office, the school was renamed Myongji University and approved as a four-year university. The graduate school followed in December 1967.
The emblem is a Christian cross with many leaves, which Myongji says stand for vigorous educational activity. The blue stands for Christian faith, peace and room to grow.
The administrative headquarters moved to the current Seoul site in Namgajwa-dong in 1976. Ground was broken for the Yongin campus in July 1979, and the headquarters moved there in March 1983.
