Things Korean students all know that are new when you arrive.
1916
It started as a kindergarten
Chung-Ang Kindergarten opened in April 1916 at a Methodist church in Insa-dong. It became Chung-Ang Women's College in 1947, and in 1948 Chung-Ang University, which the school calls Korea's first co-educational institution.
청룡
The blue dragon
When founder Louise Yim bought the land in Heukseok-dong, she dreamt of a blue dragon, and it became the school's symbol. A monument paid for by alumni shows a dragon lifting the earth toward the sky.

Your home university nominates you in October for spring. You then apply online in November and post the original documents.
A passport valid six months past the semester and a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo. Students from outside the OECD also send an apostilled transcript and a bank statement over US$6,000 for a semester, issued within 30 days.
You need a D-2-6 student visa at least a week before classes start. You can't switch from a tourist visa in Korea. Chung-Ang sends the certificate of admission in January.
Dorm residents bring the original TB test result, in English or Korean, taken within four weeks before moving in.
Orientation is in the last week of February and you have to attend. Move-in is around the same time, so most students land two or three days before classes.
The D-2-6 is a single-entry visa, so leaving Korea before you're registered uses it up. If you have to travel, ask the International Office or call 1345 first.
You need the card to open a phone contract in your own name, open a bank account and sign up for most Korean apps.

Your visa ends on the last day of the semester and you have 30 days to leave.
Fee
The government fee for the card is ₩35,000.
Changes
Report a new address within 15 days of moving, at your local community centre or at immigration. Report a new passport to immigration within 15 days as well. Both are free.
