Andong's markets and the Garam-gil rail path

[Jungang Sin Market] Okya Sikdang is a seonji gukbap place inside the market, and it's easy to eat there on your own. On dates ending in 2 or 7 it's market day, and extra farmers' stalls line the market street. [Mammoth Bakery] People queue at weekends for the cream cheese buns. They often sell out by late afternoon, so stop by in the morning. [Garam-gil] From Imcheonggak Station beside Imcheonggak, the Woryeong train crosses the Seongnak sky bridge to the Waryong light tunnel and back. Trains run from 10:00 and the last one leaves around 16:30. It's closed on Mondays, or the next weekday when Monday is a public holiday, so on that day see just Imcheonggak and the folk museum. Check before you go. [Folk museum] It's across Woryeonggyo Bridge and leads out to the outdoor folk village. It's open daily from 09:00 to 18:00 with last entry at 17:30, so you can go on a Monday too. Checked Oct 2026. [Jjimdak Alley] One jjimdak serves two or three people, so it's best shared. Each shop has its own day off, so if one is shut, go next door. The glass noodles go soft fast, so eat them first. [Beoberi Chaltteok] The big rice cakes make an easy gift to take home. There are several shops, so find one on your way in a map app. [Departure day] The last trains to Seoul on weekdays are the KTX-Eum around 18:14 and the ITX-Maeum around 18:22, and on Saturdays and Sundays one more KTX-Eum leaves around 19:18. Andong Station is about 10 minutes from downtown by taxi. If you miss the train, the express bus to Dong Seoul leaves from Andong Bus Terminal next door around 20:00. Check times before you go. [If it rains] The Waryong light tunnel is inside an old railway tunnel, so rain doesn't matter there. The folk museum galleries are indoors too, so just cut down the outdoor folk village and the riverside walk. The market alleys are under a roof. [Seasons] From late March to early April cherry blossoms line the Nakdong riverside and Woryeonggyo. From late October to early November the leaves turn around the folk village. During the Mask Dance Festival, from late September to early October, some downtown roads close.
