The Wonju campus opened in October 1978 with a medical school and a Department of Public Health.
The school became Wonju College in January 1981 with 10 departments. It moved to its present site in Maeji-ri in 1984.
The campus is officially the Yonsei University MIRAE Campus. Yonsei says MIRAE stands for Merging Industry, Research, and Advanced Education.
After a tuition protest in 2001, Mirae students asked for an eagle statue of their own. It went up in December 2002 between the central library and the student union, and the area is called Eagle Plaza.
The whole campus is alcohol free, and the dorm rules say the same.

Your home university's exchange office nominates you on a Google Form by 31 October for spring or 30 April for autumn. You need two finished semesters, a GPA of 2.6 out of 4.0 and TOEFL iBT 61 or TOPIK 3. Native English speakers don't need a language score.
Yonsei then emails you the application. Fill it in on Google Forms by 15 November for spring or 15 May for autumn. You can ask for more time if you need it.
An English transcript, a statement of purpose, a recommendation from a professor, your health history, a TB test from the last three months, proof of insurance, a passport copy, a photo and a bank statement of US$3,500 a semester.
You need your own health and accident insurance that works in Korea for your whole stay. Send proof a month before you arrive. A plan from your home university is fine.
After acceptance Yonsei sends your certificate of admission and a confirmation of visa issuance for a D-2-6 exchange student visa. Apply at the Korean embassy or consulate.
