An agricultural school
It opened on 15 April 1939 as Anseong Public Agricultural School, became a national college in 1977 and Anseong Industrial University in 1993. It took the name Hankyong University in 1999.

Hankyong National University opened in March 2023, when Hankyong University in Anseong and Korea National University of Welfare in Pyeongtaek merged. The Anseong campus goes back to an agricultural school that opened in 1939.

Two universities become one
The merger of Hankyong University and Korea National University of Welfare was approved in April 2022. Hankyong National University opened on 1 March 2023 with campuses in Anseong and Pyeongtaek.
The white tiger
Hankyong's symbol animal is the white tiger, which the school links to freedom, courage and a pioneering spirit. Its character Hankyongyi is a white tiger whose face is shaped like a ginkgo leaf, from the school tree.
What it focuses on
Hankyong lists six focus areas: inclusive education, mobility, bio and smart farms, environment and energy, semiconductors, and total wellness.

Hankyong's main campus is in Anseong, south of Seoul. The dorms are on it too. Hankyong also has a campus in Pyeongtaek.

- From Seoul
- Buses to Anseong leave from Seoul Express Bus Terminal in Gangnam, Nambu and Dong Seoul, and from Seongnam and Suwon. Direct buses stop at Hankyong from 6:00 to 9:00, 11:00 to 13:00 and 17:30 to 20:00. At other times, get off in front of Chung-Ang University's Anseong campus and take a city bus.
- From Anseong terminal
- Bus 50 takes about 22 minutes.
- School buses
- Free buses run from Jije, Suwon, Giheung and Jamsil stations, one in the morning and one in the evening. You book on hknu.unibus.kr and sign in with a Hankyong email. In autumn 2026 they run from 1 September to 21 December.

Hankyong doesn't post an exchange application online. Your exchange coordinator at home has the forms and deadlines.
The International Cooperation Team brings in international students, runs Korean classes and handles exchange agreements.

After you arrive
Residence card
You need the card to open a phone contract in your own name, open a bank account and sign up for most Korean apps.

- Fee
- The government fee for the card is ₩35,000.
- Trips abroad
- Don't travel to other countries until your card is out. A single-entry visa works only once, so leaving early can stop you from coming back on it.
- Changes
- Report a new address within 15 days of moving, at your local community centre or at immigration. Report a new passport to immigration within 15 days as well. Both are free.
- Immigration helpline
- Call 1345 with visa or residence card questions. It answers in English and other languages on weekdays from 9:00 to 22:00. From abroad, dial +82-2-1345.

Housing
The dorm site is written for Hankyong's own students. It doesn't say how exchange students get a room, so ask the International Cooperation Team.

- Bibong, Hoyeon, Changjo and Narae halls, with 1,204 places in all.
- Moving in
- You register your fingerprint, which also gets you into the cafeteria. Meals start on the evening you move in.
- What to bring
- Bedding, a pillow, toiletries and a LAN cable for the internet.
- Not allowed
- Wi-Fi routers, TVs, fridges, electric blankets, heaters, kettles and cooking appliances.

- Autumn 2026
- Classes started on 1 September. Midterms are 20 to 26 October and finals 8 to 21 December, when the semester ends.
- Spring
- Spring 2026 ran from 3 March to 22 June. Hankyong hasn't posted 2027 dates yet.
- How much
- Hankyong students can take up to 18 credits a semester, 21 in architecture. Ask the team whether the same limit applies to you.
- Exams
- Midterms are in week 8 and finals in week 15.
- Cancelled courses
- A major course can be cancelled if fewer than half the department or 15 students sign up. For general courses the line is 25 students.
