The school animal is Biho, a tiger that roars and charges at hardship. In 2019 DU launched Dodu, a newer, friendlier Biho in a green cape. The name joins DO and DU.

After you arrive

Residence card

You need the card to open a phone contract in your own name, open a bank account and sign up for most Korean apps. Visa and stay questions go to +82-53-850-5697 or 5698.

Booking the immigration visit. Papers, fee and HiKorea screens step by step. Read the guide

Fee
The government fee for the card is ₩35,000.
Trips abroad
Don't travel to other countries until your card is out. A single-entry visa works only once, so leaving early can stop you from coming back on it.
Changes
Report a new address within 15 days of moving, at your local community centre or at immigration. Report a new passport to immigration within 15 days as well. Both are free.
Immigration helpline
Call 1345 with visa or residence card questions. It answers in English and other languages on weekdays from 9:00 to 22:00. From abroad, dial +82-2-1345.

Housing

International House 1 is DU's dorm for international students. New students get rooms first, and DU's English pages list it for Korean language and exchange students.

Rooms
Rooms for two with a private bathroom and air conditioning. No cooking, and the washing machines are shared in the basement.
Around the dorms
The dorm area has cafeterias, laundry rooms, a convenience store, a gym and table tennis.
Curfew
The doors are shut from 00:00 to 05:00. You go in with a face scan, taken when you move in.
Guests
Only residents of your building can go in. Bringing in an outsider costs 10 penalty points, and everyone involved is moved out. Close family can visit after you report them.
Moving out
A week before you leave, hand the dorm coordinator at the international office a move-out form and a copy of your bankbook. The refund reaches that account within three months, and there's none if you're moved out for penalty points.
Staying another semester
Book your International House room for the next semester at the international office before final exams.

Room search sites in English

Korean universities point exchange students to these. They're private companies with no tie to any school. Don't send a deposit before you've seen the contract.
