What Ajou is like

Things Korean students all know that are new when you arrive.

1973

Four departments, 280 students

Ajou Engineering Junior College opened in March 1973 with 280 students in four departments: electronics, precision mechanical, fermentation chemical and industrial management. It became Ajou Engineering College in 1974.

한불

A Korea-France agreement

In 1971 Korea and France agreed to set up a technology junior college to exchange technology and culture, and Ajou grew out of it. In 1978 nine Ajou scholarship students went to France under the Korea-France culture agreement.

아주 블루

The blue and the torch

The emblem is a circle with a torch in the middle made from the letters A and J. Its Prussian blue is called Ajou-blue, and the school says it stands for high intelligence and deep learning.

개척자

The Pioneer statue

A Pioneer statue stands where you can see it from the main entrance, and Ajou calls it a symbol of the university. The torch in its hand matches the torch in the emblem.

파란학기

The Paran Semester

In 2015 Ajou started the Paran Semester, where students design their own programme for a term. Ajou says it was the first of its kind at a Korean university.
