Suncheon Bay National Garden and the wetland at sunset

순천만국가정원과 습지 노을

Day course · 4 stops · Yeosu · Suncheon

Take the train about 20 minutes from Yeosu Expo and spend the day in Suncheon. Walk the National Garden in the daytime, then cross the reed beds of the Suncheon Bay Wetland and watch the sunset from Yongsan Observatory before heading back to Yeosu.

[To Suncheon] The train from Yeosu Expo to Suncheon takes 17 to 24 minutes and runs more than 30 times a day. Bus 66 from in front of Suncheon Station goes to the National Garden and the Suncheon Bay Wetland. It comes every 25 to 35 minutes on weekdays and every 40 to 60 minutes at weekends, so check the times before you go. [Geonbong Gukbap] A pork soup place about 10 minutes on foot from Suncheon Station, handy for a meal before the garden. Solo diners are fine, and if you don't eat pork, skip it. [National Garden] It's big, so give it about two and a half hours. The SkyCube cuts the walk toward the wetland, but you need a garden ticket to ride and it doesn't run on Mondays. If you're doing both the garden and the wetland, the Suncheon combined ticket for five sights costs less than buying them separately. [Daedae Seonchangjip] It's near the Suncheon Bay Wetland car park. The signature is mudskipper soup, a thick stew of a goby-like mudflat fish, and if that sounds like too much, order the cockle set meal. Check before you go whether they'll serve a single diner. [Suncheon Bay Wetland] From the reed boardwalk up to Yongsan Observatory is an uphill 25 to 30 minutes. Go in about two and a half hours before sunset to see it from the top. Tickets are sold until 17:00 from November to February, 18:00 in March, April, September and October, and 19:00 from May to August. Checked Oct 2026. [Last Monday of the month] The National Garden and the wetland both close on the last Monday of each month. If your Suncheon day lands on one, swap it with another day. [Back to Yeosu] Come down from the observatory and take bus 66 to Suncheon Station. On Saturdays and holidays the last 66 leaves earlier than on weekdays, so take a taxi if you're running late. The last train from Suncheon to Yeosu Expo leaves around 23:21, so check the times before you go. [If it rains] The garden and the wetland are both outdoors. If it rains, move your Suncheon day to another day and spend this one indoors at the Expo park in Yeosu. [Seasons] The reeds turn gold from late October to mid-November, and the ticket booths get crowded on those weekends. On the second weekend of April the tulip festival at the National Garden crowds bus 66 as well. From November to February the sun sets early and wetland ticket sales end early too, so finish the garden by around lunchtime. Hooded cranes winter in the wetland.
