Seorak cable car and Abai Village

설악 케이블카와 아바이마을

Day course · 7 stops · Gangwon East Coast

Ride the Gwongeumseong cable car from Sogongwon in Seoraksan early in the morning and walk around Sinheungsa. In the afternoon, eat at the Sokcho market and cross to Abai Village on the Gaetbae ferry.

[Early start] Buses 7 and 7-1 from downtown Sokcho run to the Sogongwon terminus in about 30 to 40 minutes. The earlier you get there, the shorter the cable car wait. [Cable car] No advance booking. Tickets are sold on site on the day only. The day's operating hours go up on the official website, and it stops without warning in strong wind. If the wait runs past 2 hours, walk to Biryong Falls instead. [Gaetbae ferry] It stops in rough seas. Then walk over the bridge into Abai Village, about 15 to 20 minutes. Bring some small cash. [Market] Several of the sundae shops close on Wednesdays. The dakgangjeong line can take an hour on weekend evenings, so buy it earlier in the day. It often comes topped with peanuts, so ask first if you have a nut allergy. [Seasons] On October foliage weekends the cable car wait can run 2 to 3 hours. In the wildfire seasons of spring (early March to 15 May) and autumn (about 15 November to 15 December) only the high trails close, and Sogongwon and the Biryong Falls trail stay open. [Leaving] Sokcho Express Bus Terminal is by Sokcho Beach and the Intercity Bus Terminal is at the north end of town, so go to the one on your ticket. Buses to Seoul sell out early on October foliage weekends and in July and August, so buy your return ticket first.
