Bulguksa, Seokguram and the museum

불국사·석굴암과 국립경주박물관

Day course · 5 stops · Gyeongju

Bulguksa in the morning, then bus 12 up to Seokguram. Back in town, see Bunhwangsa and the Gyeongju National Museum and pick up some Hwangnam bread.

[Bulguksa] About 40 minutes from downtown on bus 10 or 11. Go early to stay ahead of the school groups. The main hall is due for about two years of repairs from late 2026, so how much of it you can see may change. [Bus 12] Bus 12 takes you up from Bulguksa to Seokguram. It doesn't come often and the last bus changes with the season, so check the timetable before you head up. [Museum] On the second Monday of March, June, September and December only the galleries close, and the garden stays open. From March to October it's open until 20:00 on Saturdays. Checked Oct 2026. [Departure day] Leave town an hour before your train. Bus 50 or 51 takes about 15 to 20 minutes to Gyeongju Station, plus the wait, so check bus times before you go. If you're buying Hwangnam bread, expect a line on weekends. [If it rains] Bulguksa and Seokguram mean a lot of walking outside. In heavy rain, spend longer at the museum. [Seasons] Autumn leaves peak from late October to mid-November, and the road to Bulguksa jams on those weekends, so set out early. From late October to early November, bus 10 from Bulguksa can take you on to the ginkgo road at Tongiljeon.
